August 2016 Update

August 2016 Update

August was a very quiet month for the BID. Most if not all of our Directors took the opportunity to get away with family or friends.

Street Entertainment

These ran every Wednesday from the middle of July to 31st August. The feedback we have received from the mums, dads, grandparents and carers has all been very positive. 64 children (and one adult) had their faces painted at one of the sessions.

Below are just a couple of comments that were posted on Social media:-

“Looks like everyone had fun once again. A huge well done to Otley BID”

“It was lovely to see the market area so busy on a Wednesday – good for trade and also the children enjoying themselves”

We hope to bring the entertainment back in the Spring and are looking at ways of making the entertainment “cost neutral” to the BID. This would mean we would still be able to offer the entertainment free of charge. If anyone has any ideas how we might achieve this please drop me a line – Steph.lee@otleybid.co.uk

Business Plan Update

As we mentioned in last month’s publication we have started to put together a half term report. Amongst other things it will cover what we have done since April 2014, a brief explanation of our finances for the years 2014/15 & 2015/16 and some ideas of what we would still like to achieve before the end of our 5 year term in March 2019. If any of our businesses out there would like to send me their thoughts on our progress so far or projects you would still like to be investigated they would be very welcome. Please email Steph.lee@otleybid.co.uk.

Once again we will be using the work of a local artist on the front and back pages. Our use of Julia Odell’s work was displayed as a splash screen on the projector at the ATCM 2016 conference in Croydon, where Otley BID was praised for our innovation of using local community artists instead of the usual pictures of buildings and people.

Town Team Volunteers

We have the volunteers – we now need to put together a database of all the many events that are run by voluntary groups in the town.

Don’t forget to join the Facebook group “Town Team Volunteers” http://tinyurl.com/zdk7nzg as this will eventually be where we ask for volunteers as well as organisers of events being able to post their requirements. It will only succeed if everyone joins the group.

OK, so you have joined the Town Team Facebook group and given us all your details, now have you got your polo shirt/cap and lapel badge yet?  These are being kept at Greenholme Mills Carpets on Station Lane. If you would like to collect yours please let them know before you call in, on 01943 466268.
