Otley 2nd Lockdown

Covid-19: November Lockdown – Financial Support Update

Dear businesses

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on Saturday confirming a 2nd nationwide lockdown, we are truly sorry to hear that many of our local businesses are again required to close and our thoughts are with you and your families during this tough time.

We know some of you are able to remain open as you offer essential services, and some have adapted your businesses during this pandemic to help you to remain trading in a different way to normal – this is true testament to the positivity and strength in our town.

Otley folk are resilient and our customers have a strong #shoplocal ethic so we feel confident that our town will again come together and bounce back as soon as we are able to fully re-open. But as ever, we are here to help in any way we can, so please continue to feed any thoughts or ideas back to us on how we can support you.

  1. Hi Rachelle

It’s jo here from Wharfedale embroidery .
I hope you are well and was wondering
if you can help me in finding out how we stand re opening…
The speech on Saturday was that manufacturing businesses can stay open now as we make bespoke workwear scrubs and ppe masks do we fit into this category?
I’ve rung and spoken to several departments at Leeds gov and none don’t see why we can’t open.
But obviously I would like confirmation so as to not have anyone complaining wondering if you knew anyone I could possibly get in touch with!
As obviously at this time being Ltd I’m having no financial support from the government then it would be great if we can actually have the shop open ..
    Kind regards
    Thanks jo

    • Hi Jo,

Firstly, apologies for the delayed reply. The website comments aren’t monitored on a daily basis so if you do have any questions I’d recommend emailing me direct for a quicker response – rachelle.atkin@otleybid.co.uk.

In answer to your question, I would say that if you have spoken to LCC and they have advised that you can remain open then this is sufficient. However, to keep within the guidelines I would have thought you would still need to close your business but be working behind the scenes and providing a click and collect or delivery service as the public would not be able to enter your shop. I would highly recommend you get this clarified (if you haven’t done so already) and also make a note of who you spoke to at LCC and the dates you had the conversations so that you have record to refer back to should anyone question it.

Regarding support, we have received any update from LCC today regarding the grant scheme that they are putting together (as a follow-on from what they provided during the 1st lockdown). They are still working on putting the process together, but please click on the link below, read the information about if you would qualify and the support that is available. Then ‘Register Your Interest’ by clicking on the ‘Contact Us’ button and complete the online form. You could be eligible for some help within this scheme – https://www.leeds.gov.uk/coronavirus/business.

I hope this helps and you receive the support you need. If you do have any other questions please don’t hesitate to email me.

      Best regards
      Rachelle
